Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back Spells

Overview

Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back spells are composed of 2 to 4 symbols. The first symbol is the "power" of the spell (which affects the strength, duration and mana cost), the other(s) 1 to 3 symbol(s) designate the spell itself. High power spells cannot be cast by low skilled champions. The spell list below only shows the last 1 to 3 symbol(s). You need to add a power symbol before.
Each symbol costs mana points, depending on the selected power.
If a champion has not enough mana points, the symbol cannot be used. You have to wait, sleep, drink mana potions or equip items that increase your mana.
The Gor symbol is the most expensive and has no use in Dungeon Master. The magic map spells in Chaos Strikes Back use that symbol except on the Atari ST where the magic map is not available.
The characteristics of spells were extracted from Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back for Atari ST by using the DMExtract v1.01 and CSBEdit v1.0 for PC tools by rain` (rain@www.qwplayers.org).

Notes:
Difficulty: The base difficulty to cast the spell. This value is multiplied by a difficulty multiplier associated with each power level.
Fatigue: The amount of time (1/6ths of a second) the champion has to wait before being able to use its action hand. A champion can cast spells one right after the other.
Skill: The current experience of the champion in this skill and the spell difficulty are used to determine if the spell casting succeeds. Casting the spell also adds experience to this skill.
Location: Coordinates in the dungeon where a scroll reveals the spell symbols. Poison Potion (Ven Potion) is the only spell not revealed in a scroll.

Symbols

The following table contains all the symbols with their symbol, name and mana cost for each of the six power levels. The mana cost of the power symbols is equal to the power level.
Each symbol has an associated base mana cost (the first value, used for power level 1) and the other values are determined by multiplying the base cost by (Power Level + 1) / 2 and rounding the numbers down when necessary. For each power level, the corresponding difficulty multiplier is also specified. The difficulty of a spell is determined by multiplying the base difficulty of the spell and the difficulty multiplier associated with the power level of the spell.
