Ending animation
To watch the ending animation of Dungeon Master for PC, you can replace the FTL logo animation by the ending animation. You do this by renaming the file "SWOOSH" to "SWOOSH.BAK" and the file "END" to "SWOOSH".
Killing the Red Dragon
Save 4 Ven Potions, and 4 Magical Boxes. Equip each champion with a Magical Box in their action hand, and a Ven Potion in their other hand. Have everyone who can cast spells prepare a Poison Cloud spell. When the Red Dragon is in front of your party, use all 4 Magical Boxes, throw all your Ven Potions, and cast all your Poison Cloud spells. The Red Dragon will be dead before it unfreezes.
Kid dungeon
[Submitted by Marco (mcavagna@umaryland.edu)]
In Dungeon Master for Apple II GS, there is a three levels bonus dungeon. You can access it by pressing the Apple IIGS "option" key (mapped to F2 in the KEGS emulator) while clicking the Enter button on the main screen. This small dungeon contains some creatures and lots of items.
Gambit submitted the following information: The Kid Dungeon instructions insert that comes with the Apple IIGS version does tell you how to get into the dungeon on Apple IIGS, Amiga and Atari ST. Perhaps it was possible on early versions for the Atari ST and Amiga, but it's not possible in the later versions.
Do not get lost
You can drop Zokathra spells on the ground to keep track of where you have been in the dungeon. This may be useful in some mazes. You could drop any other items, but you can produce as many Zokathra spells as you need.
Automatic training
On Amiga, you can use the auto fire capability of your joystick to automate a champion's training. Find a place where there are no creatures. Place the mouse cursor in position to use a weapon and pause the game. Unplug your mouse and replace it by your joystick. Unpause the game and switch the auto fire on. This will automatically train the selected champion with the selected action. Looking at the inventory screen while doing this speeds up the process a little bit more.
Cheats
Item replicator
[Submitted by DiscJet]
In Dungeon Master for PC, it is possible to replicate items: on level 2 at (09,38) there is a blinking teleporter. Use the completed Firestaff to cast a fluxcage in that teleporter. It is then teleported to (15,38). After a while, the teleported fluxcage starts to look like there is also something hanging in the air. At that point the replicator is ready and can be used by putting items on ground and picking them up. They will still exist on ground after you pick them up.
Note that using the replicator may crash the game.
Infinite Health Cheat
[Submitted by Miguel (mjccc1@hotmail.com)]
This tip only works with Dungeon Master for PC version 3.4 Multilanguage (it does not work for the English only version). It requires a change in the file named FIRES so you should make a backup copy of this file before applying the following procedure:
From a DOS command prompt, run the DEBUG program by typing DEBUG. At the Debug prompt, type the following commands (press enter after each command):
NFIRES
L
E 8900 30
W
Q
Now when you play the game, the health of champions will never decrease.
Hacking skills and statistics
You can exploit a bug in Dungeon Master for PC v3.4 (English) to overwrite some bytes in memory that define a champion's skills and statistics values:
- Resurrect or reincarnate one champion, for example "ZED DUKE OF BANVILLE".
- Open the mirror of another champion and choose Reincarnate.
- Type the first name of the first champion in your party ("ZED" in our example) and press enter.
- Type the last name of the first champion in your party ("DUKE OF BANVILLE" in our example) and click on OK. Nothing seems to happen, as the game prevents you to have two champions with the same name.
- Click on BACKSPACE or press the backspace key on your keyboard until you have deleted all characters from the last name.
- Press again Backspace 268 times.
- Press the "Z" key 160 times.
- Click OK. The champion is now reincarnated. The skills and statistics of the first champion you selected now have been increased.
Note: After the use of this hack, the game becomes very unstable and will probably crash. Some of the issues I have seen include: crash with "System Error 70", champion portrait corruption, champion inventory corruption, fireball frozen in air.
Free mana (Dungeon Master for PC)
Uncompress FIRES.EXE with UNLZEXE.
Open the uncompressed file with a hexadecimal editor. Find this byte sequence:
01 02 03 04 05 06 02 03 04 05 06 07 04 05 06 07 07 09 02 02 03 04 06 07
and replace all bytes by 00.
During the game the mana will not decrease when you use the runes.
Champion looting
Submitted by Rhod (bigrhod@hotmail.com)
Choose a champion that has some mana and Wizard ability. Stand in front of another mirror and bump in the wall until the champion only has a few remaining health points. Now cast a Poison Cloud spell and click on the mirror. Do not resurrect or reincarnate the champion in the mirror and wait for the death of your champion because of the poison. This will not end the game as it should. Now exit the mirror and you can wander in the dungeon like a ghost. In some versions of the game like Amiga 3.6, PC 3.4, X68000 and PC-9801, you can even walk through walls, including behind champion portraits where you can loot their possessions. In other versions like Atari ST 1.x, Atari ST 2.x, Amiga 2.x and Apple IIGS 2.x this is not possible.

A guide by Bryan Stevens printed in the 'Screen Play' tips book by Amiga Format and Future Publishing
- In this guide, the map and hints for level 5 (the numbering starts at 1) was printed in the place of level 6. An amendment to this was later printed in Issue 23 (June 1991) of Amiga Format. Interestingly enough, the amendment is printed in colour, as Amiga Format is a colour magazine while the 'Screen Play' book is printed in black and white.
