The Atari ST introduction animation was captured with the WinSTon v0.5 emulator. The videos were then compressed with Smacker by RAD Game Tools. The executable file has the player built-in (for Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP) so you don’t need to download it separately.
There is no ending animation in Chaos Strikes Back for Atari ST.
You can check the Chaos Strikes Back Hints page to learn how to view the ending animations without actually finishing the game.
Information
Release date: December 1989 Known versions:
Version 2.0 English
Version 2.1 English
Suggested retail price: $39.95 Performance The game was slower than Dungeon Master on Atari ST. Here is what FTL said about it in a post on GEnie on Tuesday January 9, 1990: Regarding Game Speed: The speed loss is due to the greater number of creatures in CSB. They each need CPU time to try and hunt you down. Regarding Loading Speed: Yes, DM and CSB on the ST are probably the slowest loading games in history. We’re sorry. But, it is a difficult problem because of the amount of data we try to cram on the disk. We use single sided disks because many ST users still have only single sided boot drives. This requires a lot of data compression which slows down loading. I’ve heard a suggestion to allow installation to a hard disk. This is a good idea and we are considering how to do this in the future. We’ve avoided it in the past because TOS seemed to be in a state of flux. However, now things seem to be settling down.

This version made by Péter Putnik in February 2009 is based on the hacked hard disk version by ELiTE. It has the following additional features:
Can be started right from Desktop, no need for AUTO folder run.
All gamesave files go in same DIR as game executable.
After finishing play, and selecting: Quit Game or Save and Quit, it will return to Desktop.
Tested on ST, Mega STE, Falcon.
Cheat mode option: by first skill level gain character will become very powerful, so after little sleep may play much easier.
GAME.PRG starts game itself, while UTILITY.PRG starts utility part - it is necessary for creating new adventure after selecting heroes. You may use even Dungeon Master gamesave for that. After making new adventure quit util with ‘Restart System’ and run GAME. Select Resume by entry, and then load from first slot.
Patched some Timer C problems - for compatibility with Hddriver.
Repacked GRAPHICS.DAT with DMExtract by Paul Gross - now levels load much faster - in few seconds !
